Letter from the Publisher

The 5th Annual St. Louis Business Journal Women’s Conference is set for Jan. 28 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Arch. We’re excited about the program that features Charlayne Hunter-Gault, Claire Gaudiani and Maxine Clark as major speakers and a host of great break-out sessions.

Ms. Hunter-Gault is the woman who broke the color barrier at University of Georgia and went on to a stellar journalism career, capped by her recent book on South Africa. Ms. Gaudiani speaks on the role of philanthropy in a capitalist society.  They are articulate, inspiring and powerful.

Maxine Clark, St. Louis’ own Chief Executive Bear, has ties to both. In fact, Ms. Clark was the one who suggested Charlayne Hunter-Gault as they are alums of the University of Georgia. Small world…

As a leading St. Louis philanthropist, Ms. Clark is a poster child for Ms. Gaudiani’s message, taking a leading role in education reform locally and nationally.

It makes me think the conference will reinforce the lives all St. Louis women choose to lead. There’s a significant health component, financial advice (even a session on how to play poker) and three different speed-coaching sessions to create new mentorships among the women in our community.

I hope you’ll consider attending the conference or sending a woman with whom you work or live.  The mantra of the conference is that you’ll learn something you can use to improve your performance at work and at home the very next day.  And you’ll have a great time. I promise.

See you January 28 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Arch!
